Zegan eyes Euro shot!
By Enrico "Erik" Crociati
Polish lightweight star Matt Zegan (33-1; 20KOs) opted to focus on the Euro title and vacated his WBF 135lb belt in order to be considered eligible as a challenger for the European diadem. In fact, the European Boxing Union has a rule which prevents any 'world' title holder from fighting for the European belt and Zegan's promoter Andrej Wasilewski decided to pursue the European opportunity for his charge. As a matter of fact, it is widely expected that current champ Stefano Zoff will vacate the EBU crown soon after his defense versus Martin Kristjansen of Denmark, currently scheduled on February 25, and the WBO #3 ranked Zegan should fight either Yuri Romanov or Juan Carlos Diaz Melero for the vacant title. Meanwhile, Zoff will fight Levander Johnson for the IBF world title.
